Case Study: Orange Tribes achieves rapid time-to-market and a reusable cloud back end with Microsoft Azure

There’s more to that food app than meets the eye, or the mouth

Orange Tribes is a 12‑person Dutch mobile development studio specializing in native and cross‑platform apps for media, entertainment and lifestyle. When four part‑time developers unexpectedly became available, the team faced the challenge of turning that limited capacity into a polished consumer product—first for the 2016 Amsterdam Food Festival and then a broader app, ReciPeeks—with aggressive time‑to‑market and scalability requirements.

They built the apps on Microsoft Azure (App Services, Mobile Services, Azure SQL, Redis Cache, Blob/Table storage) and used Visual Studio Team Services and open‑source components, reusing backend infrastructure from a prior music app to accelerate delivery. The approach delivered the festival app in weeks (about 40,000 downloads), cut development time and costs, enabled native front ends and white‑label opportunities, and positioned ReciPeeks for rapid growth (projected 200,000 downloads by end of 2016) and easier partner integration.
