The self-running datacenter draws closer

Convergent Computing (CCO), a 65-person IT services firm in Walnut Creek, California, helps midsize and large organizations design and manage on‑premises, cloud, and hybrid IT environments. Its customers wanted the agility of cloud computing without abandoning existing on‑premises investments, while also cutting costs and securely supporting employee‑owned devices.

CCO implemented Windows Server 2012 R2 and System Center 2012 R2 to build private clouds that connect to Microsoft Azure, using Hyper‑V Network Virtualization, Hyper‑V Replica, Azure Site Recovery, Storage Spaces, Azure Pack, and AD RMS/Intune for device and data protection. The result: true hybrid workload portability and faster provisioning, simplified disaster recovery and site failover, the ability to support BYOD securely, and cost reductions of roughly 50% (including replacing most SAN storage with lower‑cost JBOD/Storage Spaces).
