The Ottawa Hospital hosts its mission-critical disaster recovery systems on Microsoft Azure, cuts backup costs in half

The Ottawa Hospital, one of Canada’s largest health sciences centers, needed a cost-effective way to host mission-critical disaster recovery for its new Epic electronic health records system while keeping data in Canada. The hospital was facing expensive on-premises datacenter upgrades and needed a secure, compliant solution for protecting millions of patient records.

Using Microsoft Azure, The Ottawa Hospital built its disaster recovery environment with Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Site Recovery, and Azure Storage, supported by partner AirGate. The solution was completed in just three months, enabled real-time replication and recovery, and cut data backup/disaster recovery costs by nearly 50 percent.
