Case Study: TEXA achieves scalable, real-time prioritized vehicle IoT—doubling device orders and improving emergency response with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the TEXA Case Study

TEXA’s revolutionary IoT solution for vehicle owners helps save time, money, gas—and possibly lives

TEXA S.p.A., an Italian maker of multibrand diagnostic tools and telematics devices, developed an IoT solution that uses a plug-in dongle and mobile apps to deliver vehicle diagnostics, driving insights, and emergency notifications. After launching in Italy, orders doubled within six months, but the company faced scaling limits and needed a way to prioritize and guarantee rapid, error-free processing of emergency events across thousands of devices.

TEXA moved from IaaS to a Microsoft Azure PaaS architecture—using Event Hub, Stream Analytics, Redis Cache, DocumentDB, SQL Database and Azure AD—to ingest events asynchronously, prioritize emergencies, partition customer data, and simplify security and scaling. The new platform achieved mission-critical availability (reported 100% uptime), reduced the median cost to under €0.24 per vehicle per month, sped development and deployments, and enabled global roll-out and efficient operations with a very small IT team.
