A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Pro Bono Net, a U.S. nonprofit that provides web-based legal services (notably its Pro Bono Manager SaaS), faced end-of-life on its on‑premises servers and had to choose between refreshing hardware or migrating to the cloud. The organization weighed cost, availability, reliability, and the potential impact on its law‑firm customers before deciding to move its core service to a cloud platform.
Pro Bono Net migrated Pro Bono Manager to Microsoft Azure, using Azure Virtual Machines, Azure SQL Reporting and SharePoint foundations with high‑availability replicas and availability sets. The move avoided large capital outlays, cut annual infrastructure costs to about $11,000 (a 79% savings after a 1.4‑year payback), raised uptime from 99% to 99.9%, improved page and report load times by ~20%, and opened the door to global markets via Azure’s worldwide data centers.
