Yara, a Norway-based global fertilizer company with 15,000 employees and operations in over 160 countries, needed a consistent way to classify, protect, and govern sensitive information—contracts, customer data, and financial documents—across sites and servers worldwide to support large-scale innovation and responsible agriculture.

Yara deployed Microsoft Office 365, Azure Active Directory, Enterprise Mobility + Security and Azure Information Protection, rolling protections out to 14,000 users and 10,000 devices. It implemented five classification levels with automatic labeling and encryption (e.g., “confidential” files are encrypted and access-restricted), enabling secure global collaboration, clearer ownership, improved efficiency, and simpler compliance preparations for regulations such as GDPR.
