Sulekha is one of India’s largest digital platforms, connecting tens of millions of customers and local businesses across 800 service categories and multiple countries. Faced with rapid growth—about 35 million unique visits per month, 358,000 JSON documents generated daily, and peak traffic of 36+ hits/second—its on-premises infrastructure could not meet the company’s needs for speed, scalability, and rapid application development.

Sulekha migrated to Microsoft Azure and adopted Azure DocumentDB (with Azure Search, Active Directory, Stream Analytics, and Power BI) to gain a JSON-based, schema-flexible database with SQL-like querying, easy scaling, and low administrative overhead. The move provided better availability and security, supported ~60,000 request units to handle peak loads, processed ~20,000 leads daily and 60–80 GB of new data per day, eliminated much sysadmin work, and enabled weekly product releases and real-time analytics.
