Sony Global Manufacturing & Operations support service combines the cloud with open source software to reduce costs

Sony Global Manufacturing & Operations Corporation (SGMO), which took on global support for Sony VAIO, needed to move its on‑premises customer support systems to the cloud without disrupting service, cut operating costs, and gain elastic scalability. To accomplish this, SGMO partnered with Visionarts (a Sony Group cloud integrator and Microsoft partner) and Microsoft to plan an agile, secure migration that preserved existing Red Hat‑based workloads.

SGMO migrated to Microsoft Azure using Red Hat Enterprise Linux VMs and services including Azure ExpressRoute, Backup, Log Analytics, and Security Center, leveraging both IaaS and PaaS patterns. The project completed by the end of 2016 and delivered the expected cost reductions while maintaining support quality, plus improved monitoring, security, scalability, and stronger BCP and future cloud innovation opportunities.
