Software Maker Offers Cloud Service to Simplify Email Migrations and Expand Reach

Quest Software, a US-based provider of application and infrastructure management software, faced a common customer pain point: organizations and universities wanted to move email from on-premises systems and Google Mail to Office 365 but were deterred by complex, server-based migration tools that were costly, risky, and time-consuming. Quest set out to offer a simple, low-risk way to migrate large numbers of mailboxes without on-site infrastructure.

Quest built Quest OnDemand Migration for Email as a SaaS running on Microsoft Azure: customers log into a portal, enter source and target credentials, select mailboxes, and start the migration while monitoring progress. Running on Azure gives Quest global scale, high availability, and security (no customer messages stored in Azure), enabling thousands of mailbox migrations—including from Gmail—support for small businesses to enterprises with tens of thousands of mailboxes, faster timelines (many small orgs migrate in ~15 minutes), and a low per-mailbox price (US$10).
