Software Company Uses Cloud Solution to Improve Development Efficiency

Clear Measure is a 20-person software engineering firm in Austin that builds and maintains custom applications for clients. Although developers relied on Microsoft Visual Studio, the company was juggling multiple source-control and lifecycle tools, maintaining collocated development/test servers, and even outsourcing mobile work — creating slow provisioning and an enormous testing challenge (about 21,000 environment combinations) that distracted engineers from core development.

Clear Measure adopted Microsoft Visual Studio Online and moved development and test infrastructure to Windows Azure IaaS, using Azure APIs and provisioning scripts plus per-project subscriptions with budgets. The result: consolidated project management and Git integration in Visual Studio, retired colocation servers, massive parallel regression testing that would be infeasible manually, faster environment provisioning, in-house mobile development via Xamarin, and measurable gains in developer productivity and cost visibility.
