Case Study: Seadrill achieves real-time operational insights and cost savings with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the Seadrill Case Study

Seadrill are mining the benefits of Azure big data

Seadrill, a global leader in deep‑water drilling with around 6,000 employees, faced the challenge of turning the vast amounts of data generated by its rigs into timely, actionable intelligence to predict equipment failures, optimise performance and support commercial negotiations. The company needed to integrate safety, operations and financial data across systems and analyse it in real time to improve decision‑making and demonstrate rig performance to customers.

Seadrill implemented Microsoft Azure, Power BI and Data Warehouse technologies, plus Azure Machine Learning for automated inventory optimisation, to create real‑time interactive dashboards and integrated analytics. The solution delivered actionable insights, allowed Seadrill to prove rig outperformance during negotiations, and reduced maintenance and inventory costs (with inventory optimisation now live on six rigs), strengthening operational efficiency and competitive advantage.
