Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) needed a better way to turn its large volumes of operational data into business value, especially to address loyalty program fraud in EuroBonus and improve other forecasting and optimization tasks. As a longtime Microsoft customer, SAS used Microsoft Azure and Azure Machine Learning to move from manual, infrastructure-heavy processes to a scalable cloud-based AI approach.

With Microsoft Azure, SAS built and deployed machine learning models for fraud detection, including automated retraining and model interpretability to support responsible AI and stakeholder trust. The result was stronger fraud prevention, 99% accuracy for retroactive flight registration fraud detection, 300% more small-scale fraud identified, and a simpler model with fewer features while maintaining accuracy.
