A Microsoft Azure Case Study
SAXA, a Japan-based manufacturer of office information and communication equipment, faced urgent pressure to cut energy use and CO2 emissions—an imperative heightened after the 2011 earthquake. The company wanted an IoT-based way to monitor electricity, temperature and humidity across dispersed sites to improve its own energy management and offer visualization services to customers.
Working with partner Meister, SAXA deployed wireless sensors feeding Azure and an Azure SQL database, and used Visio Pro for Office 365 to display real-time data on facility floorplans. The solution made energy waste immediately visible (for example, lights left on), delivered measurable energy and cost savings for SAXA and customers, improved forecasting and capex planning by modeling scenarios in Visio, and provided a scalable cloud platform for future forecasting and services.
