RXR Realty reopens for business using Azure IoT and the intelligent edge to empower tenant safety

RXR Realty, the third-largest real estate owner in New York City, faced the challenge of safely returning employees and tenants to work during COVID-19 while continuing its digital transformation. Using Microsoft Azure IoT cloud and edge capabilities, RXR developed a data-driven workplace wellness program called RxWell™ to support safer building operations.

Microsoft Azure helped implement a hybrid edge-cloud solution that combined custom sensors and partner technologies to track air quality, temperature, occupancy, social distancing, facemask use, and cleaning activity. The result was a Building Wellness Index that gave property managers an at-a-glance safety view and created a solution with lasting value beyond the pandemic, improving how RXR manages healthy workplaces.
