Case Study: Russian mobile operator Beeline achieves improved service quality and rapid scalability with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the Beeline Case Study

Russian mobile operator pulls ahead of its competitors through Open Source on Azure

Beeline (PJSC VimpelCom), one of Russia’s largest mobile operators, launched Music Beeline in 2014 to boost revenue and customer loyalty, but the initial third‑party platform failed to meet demands for reliable content loading, scalability and peak‑time performance. ZED+, charged with building and operating the service within a tight capital ceiling and Russian data‑residency requirements, needed a cost‑effective, scalable back end that could guarantee fast downloads and stable service for a growing subscriber base.

ZED+ migrated the service to Microsoft Azure and rebuilt the back end using open‑source technologies with a hybrid topology for payments and personal data. Azure was chosen for better OSS support, higher transfer speeds, stability and lower cost. The result: rapid time‑to‑market and faster ROI, improved stability and faster, more reliable releases, higher customer satisfaction, over 100,000 paid subscribers by October 2015 and more than 200 TB of cloud data growing daily.
