A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Kinetisense is a Medicine Hat, Alberta startup founded by chiropractor Dr. Ryan Comeau and computer specialist David Schnare that set out to replace manual goniometers with an objective, fast and portable system for measuring movement, posture and balance. The company needed a secure, easy-to-use interface that would let trainers, chiropractors and physicians share patient movement data across locations while supporting high client volumes and Canadian health-privacy requirements.
Kinetisense built a solution using the Kinect v2 camera and SDK for motion capture and Azure/Microsoft Cloud for data storage, offline syncing and analytics, including Canadian datacentres for data residency. The platform enables seamless field assessments, global collaboration, and large-scale studies (for example a 1,000-athlete concussion project), and has helped Kinetisense grow—boosting its ability to sell to Canadian customers by 30% and giving it a competitive edge in sports rehabilitation.
