A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Duquesne Light Company, a century-old utility serving nearly 600,000 customers in the Pittsburgh region, set out to modernize its digital presence and accelerate innovation. The company faced slow time-to-market and a legacy platform that hindered agile development and easy content updates, so it needed a more nimble DevOps environment and better customer-facing capabilities.
Partnering with CEI, Duquesne Light migrated its website and development pipeline to Microsoft Azure PaaS (App Service, Azure SQL, Redis, Visual Studio Team Services) and implemented Sitefinity CMS in a hybrid setup with on-premises systems. The move enabled automated CI/CD across development, production, and disaster-recovery environments, cut provisioning from weeks to hours, accelerated feature releases to about every three weeks, and paved the way for IoT smart-metering and a natural-language bot—improving performance, agility, and customer engagement.
