Realizing Always-on Digital Signage Services: Cloud-based Management System Enhances The Service Availability

LG Electronics transformed its digital-signage business to meet a core challenge: keeping displays running 24/7 for their multi-year service life. With thousands of always-on screens worldwide, the company needed a way to monitor device health, detect faults early (overheating, memory issues, runtime anomalies) and reduce disruptive, costly on-site repairs while expanding from a hardware vendor into a service provider.

Using Microsoft Azure (IoT Hub, Stream Analytics, Azure SQL/PaaS) and built-in device sensors, LG deployed a cloud-based remote-management dashboard and media-player remote access that provides real-time alerts, color-coded status, and predictive troubleshooting. The move to Azure PaaS accelerated development (finished two months early), cut development costs ~20%, eliminated unnecessary site visits, improved uptime and customer satisfaction, and set the stage for future machine-learning–based predictive maintenance.
