Public Cloud Powers Business Transformation at Healthcare Major

Fortis Healthcare, one of India’s largest private healthcare providers with 54 facilities, 10,000 beds and 17,000 employees, faced a fragmented, on-premises IT landscape where each hospital ran its own systems. This siloed setup prevented sharing patient records, slowed application rollouts (taking months), and increased costs and complexity, prompting a need for a centralized, scalable, secure infrastructure to deliver a consistent patient experience.

Fortis migrated its Hospital Information System, Oracle Financials and Supply Chain, application servers and intranet to Microsoft Azure IaaS in eight months. The move transformed IT into a service provider, cut total cost of ownership by about 50%, enabled the Patient Care Portal to be launched in a day instead of 3–4 months, improved patient experience under higher transaction volumes, and positioned Fortis to expand cloud adoption into analytics and predictive healthcare.
