PRS for Music is the UK society that protects and collects royalties for more than 125,000 songwriters, composers and publishers by monitoring plays across platforms like Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music. Faced with massive growth in usage data — from millions to trillions of plays — the organisation needed to capture, validate and deliver accurate playback data and royalty statements at scale and speed so members could be paid correctly and on time.

PRS moved its analytics to Azure Data Lakes and Data Warehouses and uses Power BI to present insights, allowing rapid scale-up and down to control costs. The cloud-based solution dramatically accelerated processing — a Spotify file match that used to take 20 days now takes 11 minutes — enabling faster, more accurate royalty payments and better reporting for members.
