Prestigious Northern Europe university boosts user experience with cloud technology

The University of Tartu, a historic research university in Estonia with 13,000 students and 3,500 staff across seven campuses, faced a growing burden from a complex mix of legacy IT systems that hampered collaboration, user satisfaction and GDPR readiness. The IT team needed a simpler, more secure platform to improve service levels and free resources for development.

Working with partner GT Tarkvara, the university migrated to Microsoft Office 365 (starting with Exchange Online) and is extending to Azure AD and Intune, with Dynamics 365 under consideration. The move delivered €30,000 in direct savings and 200 fewer IT admin hours per year, a 5.8-point rise in IT satisfaction and an 11.8-point increase in user confidence, about 50% fewer email-related service calls and roughly 30% lower costs for troubleshooting and restores, alongside growing adoption of Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive.
