Postal service modernizes field operations with innovative mobile app

Pošta Slovenije, the state-owned postal service in Slovenia with 5,800 employees, needed to modernize a core line-of-business application used since 1998 so its 2,500 field postal workers could capture deliveries digitally and provide receipts at the point of service. The challenge was to reduce paper-based workloads, improve field efficiency and securely extend the internal LOB system to mobile devices while integrating with existing IT operations.

Working with Microsoft Services, Pošta Slovenije launched a Windows Phone version of the LOB app, initially rolled out to 400 workers, using Microsoft Intune integrated with System Center Configuration Manager to deploy and manage devices and apps and Azure to host data. The solution enabled remote management across 500+ locations, cut paperwork, improved customer service and delivered cost savings; the company now plans to extend the rollout to all field staff, add new app modules and offer Azure-based IaaS.
