PCL Construction uses IoT with Azure to revolutionize the construction industry

PCL Construction, headquartered in Edmonton, Canada, wanted to modernize a traditionally slow-to-digitalize industry by using cloud and IoT data to improve safety, efficiency, and productivity on job sites. Working with Microsoft Azure and Azure IoT, the company built its mobile-ready Job Site Insights application to give teams a single view of construction operations and help them make smarter, data-driven decisions.

Microsoft Azure helped PCL implement a cloud-based platform using Azure IoT sensors, Azure Digital Twins, Power BI, and other Azure services to monitor conditions in real time and support predictive analytics. The results included better worker safety, fewer manual checks, reduced warranty claims, and major cost savings: PCL cut hardware from more than 1,200 servers to half of a single rack and saved CAD 2.5 million annually in storage and server costs.
