PBSF combines advanced medicine with cloud technology to treat newborns at high risk of neurological injury

Protecting Brains & Saving Futures (PBSF) works to reduce brain injury and newborn deaths caused by perinatal asphyxia in Brazil, where thousands of infants each year are affected. To monitor high-risk babies in neonatal ICUs across the country, PBSF uses Microsoft Azure for its remote infant brain-monitoring system, helping hospitals track infants 24/7 and analyze large volumes of brain-wave data.

Using Microsoft Azure, PBSF sped up data analysis and enabled real-time alerts for physicians, improving seizure detection and treatment for newborns. The platform has supported over 200,000 hours of monitoring and helped identify about 73% of epileptic crises across 23 hospitals, while also increasing the conclusiveness of seizure diagnoses and reducing the risk of long-term sequelae.
