Omaha Public Schools transforms teacher coaching and instructional app adoption with a modern data platform

Omaha Public Schools, the largest district in Nebraska with 80 schools and about 51,000 students, had committed to a district-wide digital transformation but struggled with an aging, on-premises data warehouse. Limited to passive, quantitative reporting that was often out-of-date and inconsistent, the district lacked the timely, flexible insights needed to improve teacher coaching, app adoption, and data-driven decision making.

By migrating to a hybrid Azure SQL Database and Power BI platform and building tools like Observation 360, a Coaching Dashboard, and an App Approval workflow—supported by Microsoft Innovative Educator training—OPS now combines qualitative and quantitative data in near real time. The district has conducted tens of thousands of classroom observations, improved coaching feedback, streamlined instructional app vetting and lifecycle management, and increased transparency and trust with stakeholders, enabling better instructional decisions and wider technology adoption.
