Kongsberg Maritime AS, a Norwegian manufacturing company, needed a better way to measure changing harbor and berth depths so it could improve port safety and loading efficiency. Using Microsoft Azure services such as Azure IoT Hub and Azure Machine Learning, the team explored how to collect real-time underwater sensor data and turn it into smarter decisions for shipping operations.

Microsoft Azure helped Kongsberg Maritime connect existing berth-monitoring systems to the cloud with minimal code changes, enabling data from ports like Seattle to be viewed and analyzed remotely. The solution created a path toward real-time harbor mapping, advanced analytics, and predictive insights that could improve profitability, safety, and environmental performance, with each additional centimeter of draft potentially allowing 150 tons more product to be shipped.
