A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Oxfam Hong Kong, a chapter of the international nonprofit Oxfam, runs Trailwalker—its flagship annual 100‑kilometer fundraising team hike. The event relied on on‑premises IT that routinely struggled under peak traffic and slow reporting, limiting donor engagement, participant safety tracking and overall fundraising effectiveness.
With a 2016 grant to migrate to Microsoft Azure, Oxfam implemented scalable cloud hosting, IoT checkpoint sensors and much faster analytics and reporting, plus automatic social updates and mobile support. The results: page views rose from 117,000 to 774,000 (a >600% increase), hourly reports that once took an hour now run in minutes, participant safety and supporter engagement improved, and fundraising capacity and donations grew accordingly.
