Nigeria’s national public health institute drives swift pandemic response with Microsoft Azure

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is the country’s national public health institute, with over 300 staff charged with disease surveillance, preparedness, and response. During the COVID‑19 surge the NCDC’s existing hosting and IT infrastructure struggled with heavy traffic, slow loading and downtime, limiting public access to vital information and hindering timely decision-making.

Working with Microsoft and partner Diro Systems, the NCDC migrated to Azure and adopted Microsoft 365, quickly deploying a COVID‑19 response microsite, Healthbot, a self‑assessment tool and a central portal for consolidating assessments and data (rolled out in about three months). The move delivered better uptime and email security, faster internal collaboration, real‑time tracking and publishing of case data, and strengthened coordination for the national pandemic response—improving immediate outcomes and boosting readiness for future outbreaks.
