A Microsoft Azure Case Study
System C, a UK provider of healthcare IT whose Medway patient-administration and electronic-records system is used by over 60,000 people across 23 NHS Trusts, faced growing performance and user-experience issues as the application became more complex. Reception teams in outpatient departments reported slow response times when generating letters and using the patient reception screen, so System C engaged Microsoft to validate their approach and identify further optimisations for their .NET/SQL Server‑based platform.
Microsoft’s Premier Support for Developers (PSfD) worked with System C on-site and in labs to trace database activity, review SQL and hardware/configuration, optimise stored procedures and async calls, and explore Azure-based microservices (including Power BI for reporting) via a hackathon. The microservice and hybrid approach enabled parallel development and zero-downtime upgrades, produced measurable improvements in application and database response times, positive user feedback, and telemetry-backed performance gains — outcomes System C attributes to the close collaborative relationship with Microsoft.
