A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Tawasol, a Cairo-based digital strategy and software firm of 100 employees, was commissioned to build an interactive social fan app for a global soccer brand. Early development on Amazon Web Services ran into inflexible infrastructure, confusing naming conventions, virtual-database limits, rising costs and support constraints that jeopardized a fast-approaching beta release.
Tawasol migrated the project to an open-source stack (MySQL, PHP) on Microsoft Azure through the BizSpark program, adopting Azure IaaS and Microsoft training/support and deploying three environments (one development, two production). The move improved development speed, stability and scalability—supporting 500,000 active users, up to 18,000 posts/day, 5,500 weekly conversations and clustered databases handling 100,000 requests/day—while cutting total costs by about 20% and providing pay-as-you-go pricing and 24x7 support.
