Mount Sinai boosts collaboration between more than 10,000 providers to improve care with Microsoft Azure

Mount Sinai Health System, a top-ranked New York health network, created a DSRIP PPS that spans 200 organizations and more than 10,000 providers—including hospitals, nursing homes, substance‑abuse centers and community outreach groups. The challenge was to deliver a secure, HIPAA‑compliant technology platform that could support widely varying technical capabilities, evolving DSRIP requirements, and avoid costly over‑ or under‑provisioning and complex VPN management across so many partners.

Mount Sinai built a hybrid cloud on Microsoft Azure with Accenture, Cognizant, and Persistent, delivering a central portal (Liferay/Bitnami) on Azure, ExpressRoute connectivity and firewalls, Okta single sign‑on, and Azure services (VMs, Web Apps, SQL Database, load balancers) to accelerate development and protect data. The platform powers a BI data warehouse, Salesforce integrations and apps for care coordination and community resources, enabling faster development, real‑time analytics, improved chronic‑disease management and—over five years—an expected ~25% reduction in avoidable hospital use.
