Moodle on Microsoft Azure streamlines and improves institutional communications

Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT) is a nonprofit Argentinian university with more than 25 years of experience, over 2,400 undergraduates, 2,200+ graduate students and 1,500+ active courses per year. Moodle is the campus’ primary course-management platform, but running it on physical and then virtualized on-premises servers left the university vulnerable to storage exhaustion and traffic spikes (e.g., exam periods and start of term) that threatened availability and performance.

UTDT worked with Prisma to migrate Moodle to Microsoft Azure, deploying CentOS VMs, VPN connectivity, security groups and an auto-scale environment. The cloud solution delivers on-demand capacity for peak loads, a better cost–performance balance, reduced infrastructure administration, guaranteed system availability and the ability to expand cloud hosting to other services (such as DSpace) across the university.
