A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Capstone Mining, a Vancouver‑headquartered copper producer with operations across North and South America, needed a more efficient, reliable, and affordable way to share information and keep business systems continuously available across remote sites. Building a secondary datacenter was cost‑prohibitive, so the company sought a scalable solution to reduce volatility, lower IT costs, and provide decision makers with timely access to mission‑critical data.
Working with partner Softlanding, Capstone moved to a hybrid cloud using Microsoft Office 365 and the Azure platform—migrating ERP and other workloads to Azure Virtual Machines and using Azure Site Recovery for migration and disaster recovery. The phased six‑month deployment eliminated two datacenters, improved resilience and security, enabled anytime access to data, and freed IT to focus on strategic work; Capstone projects roughly US$6 million in savings over three years and plans further modernization with PaaS and analytics.
