Case Study: Gulf Air achieves a modern, scalable, globally responsive online presence with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the Gulf Air Case Study

Middle East’s leading airline soars ahead with completely rebuilt online channel

Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain founded in 1950, needed a complete refresh of its customer-facing web presence to replace an aging SharePoint site. The airline’s goals were a fully responsive, cross‑device platform that could deliver sub‑second responses globally, scale for peak‑time booking traffic, improve security and reliability, and remove geographic hosting limitations that were causing service breaks.

Working with partner LINK Development, Gulf Air rebuilt its portal on Microsoft Azure using Drupal 7 and other Open Source components, creating a multilingual, modular omni‑channel site. The move delivered faster performance and global reach, ended on‑premises hosting costs, generated over a million hits per month, earned strong customer feedback, and created an agile, future‑proof foundation for ongoing digital growth.
