Middle Eastern cooking culture has a great, new, tasty service

Atbaki is a Jordan- and Lebanon-based startup (20 employees) that runs an Arabic-language web and mobile social network for Middle Eastern cooking, hosting about 9,000 recipes. The company needed a scalable, rock‑solid back end to support video delivery and mobile apps and to absorb sudden traffic spikes from partners and seasonal peaks (several thousand concurrent users during an ad campaign; around 400,000 daily requests on average and up to 700,000 at peak).

Atbaki moved to Microsoft Azure under the BizSpark Plus program, using Azure VMs, Redis Cache, Load Balancer and Traffic Manager while running an open-source stack (Ubuntu, PostgreSQL, Varnish, Apache, PHP). The platform let the team scale up and down easily, handled the MBC ad-driven surge and Ramadan spikes, and provided the reliable infrastructure and local support needed to grow the business.
