Marico Gains Agility in Decision Making by Moving Data Warehouse to Cloud

Marico, a leading Indian consumer goods company operating across 25 countries with brands in hair care, skin care, edible oils and more, faced fast-changing data volumes that strained its on-premises warehouse. Month‑end spikes pushed daily ETL from a typical 3–4 GB to 8–9 GB while the extraction window remained just 3–4 hours, forcing frequent hardware refreshes and presenting performance, support and control challenges.

Marico migrated to Microsoft Azure SQL Data Warehouse, consolidated and restructured data for parallel processing, and completed the move in early 2017. The cloud solution delivered on-demand scaling and eliminated the need for a separate DR site; ETL time is expected to fall from about 4 hours to 40 minutes, giving the business faster decision-making, lower infrastructure overhead and greater operational peace of mind.
