Preview of the Lucidity Case Study

Leading New Zealand cloud company transforms hosted database market with all-in-one service

Lucidity, a New Zealand cloud-services provider, set out to expand from smaller customers into the mid‑market but faced a fragmented market, high licensing and labour costs, and customer confusion over buying licences, disaster recovery and DBA support separately. To win mid‑market business it needed to strip labour from server tasks and productise a simple, single‑vendor database offering.

Using Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and Windows Azure Pack, and partnering with Terawe and database specialist Enterprise IT, Lucidity launched an all‑in‑one managed DBaaS that bundles hardware, software, backups, security and DBA support under one monthly fee. The new service cut deployment time from over four hours to under five minutes, reduced licensing costs by about 25% (with customer cost savings cited up to 65%), enables a full managed service from roughly $50/month, lowers operational overhead and helped Lucidity grow into the SMB and mid‑market.
