Leading global insurance company improves actuarial calculation capability while generating savings

MetLife, a global leader in life and health insurance, faced the challenge of running highly complex, stochastic actuarial models that require massive, variable high‑performance computing capacity. The company needed a consistent, enterprise‑wide platform to support thousands of scenarios, meet regulatory deadlines, and avoid large capital investments in underused on‑premises servers while giving actuaries a single source of truth for global decision‑making.

MetLife built the MetLife Integrated Actuarial Modeling Environment (MIAME) using Microsoft technologies (HPC Pack, Windows Server, SQL Server/PDW, Analytics Platform System, Hadoop) and extended it to Microsoft Azure so compute can scale on demand. The cloud-enabled solution centralized data and processing, cut infrastructure costs by an estimated 45–55%, sped up and improved actuarial calculations, and delivered faster, more consistent insights for regulators, business leaders, and customers.
