A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Larnia is a Colombian cloud-based startup that simplifies the complex laws and logistics of hiring, managing, and paying domestic workers across Colombia and Latin America. Faced with the need to deliver legally compliant contracts, payroll, social security payments, scheduling, background checks and other HR tasks for home employers, the company needed a fast, reliable, and scalable web platform to serve a large and growing user base.
Larnia built the service on Microsoft Azure using a mix of open-source technologies (Ubuntu, Docker/Azure Container Service, Nginx, Node.js, React) alongside Azure services (Azure Redis Cache, Azure SQL Server, WebJobs). That architecture enabled rapid deployment, handled end-of-month usage spikes without downtime, and automated recurring processes. Launched in June 2016, Larnia grew to more than 800 customers in under a year, is positioned to scale toward a projected 40,000 customers, and continues to expand automation and features.
