Case Study: Banca Carige achieves cost savings and resilient hybrid disaster recovery with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the Banca Carige Case Study

Large Italian bank has a strong future with Azure

Banca Carige, one of Italy’s largest retail banks with 625 branches and more than 1 million customers, needed to modernize its IT infrastructure to handle rapid data growth, cut costs, and meet strict Italian disaster‑recovery and geographical‑redundancy regulations without degrading service. The bank sought a hybrid approach that would improve availability and regulatory compliance while shifting spending away from capital investments.

Working with partner SoftJam, Banca Carige deployed Microsoft Azure hybrid services including four Azure StorSimple instances and Azure Rights Management, migrating about 50 TB of primarily Office files. StorSimple’s tiering, deduplication and cloud snapshots kept hot data on‑premises and archived inactive data to Azure, enabling smooth migration, centralized management, improved disaster‑recovery testing, regulatory compliance, and lower costs by moving from CapEx to OpEx — all while maintaining or improving the user experience.
