Case Study: Komatsu Australia achieves end-to-end invoice automation with Microsoft Azure and Power Automate

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the Komatsu Case Study

Komatsu achieves breakthrough performance gains and savings with Azure SQL Database Managed Instance

Komatsu Australia, the Australian subsidiary of Komatsu, was struggling to manually process nearly 52,000 invoices a year, with a small parts team spending hours reading PDFs, validating data, and entering it repeatedly into Excel, a web portal, and a legacy IBM AS400 system. The company needed a faster, more efficient way to manage invoice processing and reduce downstream delays across its supply chain, and it turned to Microsoft Azure and Power Automate with AI Builder to help solve the problem.

Microsoft Azure and Power Automate automated the invoice workflow end to end by extracting data from PDF invoices, validating it against purchase orders in Azure Synapse, and pushing it into SQL and the IBM AS400 through desktop flows. Komatsu Australia built the solution in just three weeks, processed 1,100 invoices for one supplier, and saved more than 300 manual labor hours per year, while also creating a citizen developer program to expand automation across the business.
