Kent County Council reimagines public service

Kent County Council, the largest local authority in England by population, faced growing demand for services, tight budgets, and heavy administrative workloads that limited efficiency and frontline delivery. As part of its Digital Strategy 2024-2027, the council partnered with Microsoft Azure and deployed Microsoft 365 Copilot alongside other Microsoft tools to help staff work more effectively.

Microsoft Azure-supported transformation at Kent County Council introduced 1,500 Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses, 6,500 Surface devices, and staff training to drive adoption. The result was a daily efficiency gain of 10 to 30 minutes per colleague, improved staff wellbeing and job satisfaction, and £500,000 saved in staffing costs by pausing recruitment for 18 FTE posts; it also helped streamline children’s and adult services business support and reduce help desk calls.
