Keeping the Power on When You Need It Most

Cummins Power Generation, part of the century-old Cummins global power company, faced the challenge of giving its customers and 8,000 dealers better, real-time visibility into distributed generator sets to prevent downtime—especially during storms or at mission-critical sites like hospitals. The company wanted a cloud-based solution to simplify monitoring, enable timely refueling and maintenance, and minimize service trips and the potentially catastrophic effects of power loss.

Cummins built PowerCommand Cloud on the Microsoft Azure IoT Suite to collect and analyze generator performance data in real time, surface it via a web and mobile interface, and send automatic alerts. The system reduced unnecessary service trips, sped problem resolution, increased uptime and customer satisfaction, and generated fleet-wide insights to drive future product improvements as it rolled out globally.
