Case Study: Japanese anime studio Khara achieves scalable, crash-proof website hosting and lower operational costs with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Azure Case Study

Preview of the Khara Case Study

Japanese anime production studio utilizes open source on Microsoft cloud to host its website securely

Khara is a mid-sized Japanese anime and film studio best known for the Rebuild of Evangelion series. Its corporate website and email repeatedly crashed whenever Evangelion-related news or a TV airing drove sudden traffic spikes, and the small in-house IT team (two engineers) struggled to keep the rented Linux server running while supporting a 100+ person production staff.

With help from partner Cosat and Microsoft specialists, Khara migrated its WordPress site and MySQL content to Microsoft Azure App Service (Web Apps) and used WebMatrix for migration. The scalable PaaS eliminated outages during traffic surges, lowered operational costs, sped up digital asset transfers, and freed the team to focus on production work while the studio explores further cloud and hybrid solutions.
