Intesa Sanpaolo improves real estate and facilities operations, reduces carbon footprint with Azure

Intesa Sanpaolo, Italy’s largest banking group, wanted to make its real estate and facilities operations more sustainable by moving from reactive maintenance to a predictive, data-driven approach. Working with Microsoft Azure and ICONICS, the bank set out to improve building comfort, identify faults faster, and reduce energy consumption across its extensive property portfolio.

Microsoft Azure helped Intesa Sanpaolo build a unified IoT and AI platform with real-time monitoring, dashboards, and fault detection for HVAC and other building systems. The solution delivered measurable results: a 15% reduction in annual energy consumption in the first three buildings, equal to 2.5 GWh per year, and estimated first-six-month savings of 500,000 euros. Intesa Sanpaolo expects the program to scale to about 10 GWh in energy reduction and around 2 million euros in annual savings, with Microsoft Azure central to those gains.
