A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Integral Analytics is an energy‑analytics firm that helps electric utilities fuse siloed engineering, operations, and econometric data to deliver actionable insights (for example, siting EV charging stations and forecasting load). As its data volumes grew—up to 25 TB and multi-year histories—its on‑premises SQL Server and an early AWS/Redshift deployment couldn’t support fast, cost‑effective querying, batch and real‑time processing, or the .NET/T‑SQL tooling its developers relied on.
Integral migrated its data platform to Azure, using Azure SQL Data Warehouse alongside Azure SQL Database, Data Factory, Blob Storage, Batch and machine‑learning services, migrating over 7 TB in a week. The new architecture enabled hybrid queries, easy ETL orchestration, pause/resume compute and elastic scaling (saving substantial costs by running compute only when needed), faster development with familiar tools, and improved analytics performance—allowing the company to deliver richer, more timely insights to utilities while lowering operating expenses.
