Institute Lents Students Surface Pro 3 as main devices with Performance, Mobility, and Security

Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) needed a modern, hybrid device strategy to support diverse student needs across three graduate schools—high-performance machines for simulations and lightweight, mobile devices for fieldwork—while preparing to consolidate schools and maintain appropriate, non-intrusive device management and data security. The Research Center for Advanced Computing Infrastructure sought a solution that balanced performance, mobility, manageability and future cloud-based services.

JAIST deployed Microsoft Surface Pro 3 with docking stations, Microsoft Intune for unified device management, and the Enterprise Mobility Suite (Azure AD Premium and Azure RMS), alongside Office 365. The cloud-based rollout was fast and smooth, enabling students to work anywhere, simplifying IT oversight and remote diagnostics, strengthening data protection, and laying the foundation for expanded cloud collaboration, alumni lifetime IDs, and further services like Skype for Business.
