How the National Development Council aids underserved communities

The National Development Council (NDC) is a U.S. nonprofit that finances and advises local leaders to create affordable housing, jobs and community infrastructure. As the organization grew to about 100 employees distributed across multiple cities—with roughly 60% remote or traveling—legacy virtual‑machine setups and a managed‑services Exchange environment became costly, complex and a barrier to efficient communication and partner engagement (MSP costs were about $40,000/month).

CTO Antonio Palumbo led a move to Azure, Office 365 and Windows 10, migrating to Exchange Online and adopting SharePoint and Skype for Business to streamline collaboration. The cloud transition cut IT costs by about 80%, improved security and compliance (including PCI/HIPAA concerns), simplified remote collaboration, and provided a scalable platform to better support NDC’s partners and mission.
