How a Synapse Analytics data platform is transforming the refractory industry

RHI Magnesita, a global leader in refractories, needed to modernize its fragmented IT landscape after a major merger and support new digital services such as predictive analytics, IoT monitoring, and SaaS offerings for industrial customers. To do that, the company rebuilt its data infrastructure on Microsoft Azure, using Microsoft Azure products including Azure Synapse Analytics to create a scalable, cloud-based modern data warehouse.

Microsoft Azure helped RHI Magnesita implement a centralized analytics platform with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, Power BI, and Dynamics 365 integration. The new platform supports nearly 1,000 data pipelines, speeds up implementation of projects by up to 10x, and cut one SAP costing run from about 12 hours to around 5 minutes, helping RHI Magnesita create a foundation for new digital revenue and an expected €100 million from digital products by 2025.
