A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Northpower, a consumer-owned New Zealand electricity distributor responsible for supplying about 800,000 properties across Northland, Auckland and Wellington, needed a highly resilient, out-of-band way to receive and send service requests during major storms or earthquakes. The company wanted a B2B solution with minimal points of failure that would keep dispatching working even if its own network or work-management systems were unavailable, while remaining cost-effective and easy to maintain.
Working with Adaptiv Integration, Northpower built the Reactive app on Microsoft Azure using App Services, Logic Apps and other cloud services. The cloud solution was developed in about 400 hours, runs for roughly NZ$10/day, and provides 24/7, scalable dispatch connectivity so call centers can reach field engineers even during infrastructure failures. The result is reduced dependence on internal hardware, faster, more reliable response in disasters, integrated contractor billing, and lower long-term operating costs.
